CBD is the topic du jour at the moment. It's popping up nearly everywhere - in drinks, ice creams, bath bombs, you can even slather on CBD body cream from head to toe. Everyone everywhere is talking about it - from your favorite A-lister-turned-entrepreneur to your influential Instagram babes. It's hard to overstate the speed at which CBD has become the biggest hype in wellness. But do you really know what it is, what it isn't, and why so many are adding CBD to their daily self-care routine?

First comes first, let us explain what CBD is

Many people assume that CBD is a rather new and innovative supplement because of its modern hype. But the truth is that CBD has been around for more than half a century. CBD is a type of compound found in the cannabis plant called a cannabinoid. Yes, we said cannabis – but this isn't the cannabis you think. The cannabis plant contains many compounds called cannabinoids. Maybe you are familiar with one of them, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), known to get you high. BUT there's another compound completely separate from THC, the cannabidiol (CBD), which is not psychoactive. Instead, it can have a balancing effect.

Is CBD legal?

Yes! CBD is legal to buy in Sweden, all across Europe, and in many other countries around the world. THC is not legal in Sweden, although smaller doses are allowed in other countries and regions.

How to take CBD oil

CBD oils are designed to be held under the tongue (so called sublingual dosage), or it can be mixed with your favorite drink or food. You get the fastest and most effective absorption from holding it under your tongue and not swallowing it right away. As a bonus, taking CBD under your tongue means your body will absorb a greater amount of it, because of the many capillaries straight under your tongue.

If you drop CBD in your beverage of choice, it takes around 30 minutes to 2 hours for the CBD to be absorbed. Also, a bit less is uptaken into your bloodstream compared to dropping it under your tongue. We'd say it's a great way to begin if you want to ease into it slowly.

We recommend finding a daily CBD self-care ritual that works for you - and remember to continue for at least three weeks before evaluating. Take this opportunity to make it a ritual to re-balance, whether you take it in the morning, during the day or before sleep. Maybe close your eyes and take some deep breaths, or maybe write down three things you’re grateful for today. Or you just enjoy your CBD infused latte a little extra!

How much CBD should I take?

Under the tongue: Place 1 to 5 drops under your tongue and hold it for 30-60 seconds before swallowing. It allows the CBD to absorb into your body.

As a CBD booster: Add 1 to 5 drops to any of your favorite drinks.
